Types of Portland Cement

Standard Portland Cement Types

1. Normal
2. Moderate Sulfate Resistance
3. High Early Strength
4. Low Heat of Hydration
5. High Sulfate Resistance

Normal Cement: Used for general concrete work.

Moderate Sulfate Resistance Cement: Use to provide protection against moderate sulfate exposure.

High Early Strength Cement: Used for fast-track construction when forms need to be removed as soon as possible or structure needs to be used as soon as possible.

Low Heat of Hydration Cement: Used when mass of structure, such as large dams, requires careful control of the heat of hydration.

High Sulfate Resistance Cement: Protects from severe sulfate exposure.

Types 1 and 2 are the most available kinds of cement. Typically labeled Type I/II. Type 3 represents about 4% of U.S. production.

Type 3 is the most expensive kind of cement.

Other Cement Types

1. White Portland Cement
2. Blended Hydraulic Cements
3. Masonry Cements
4. Expansive Cements
